Energy is Real: Reiki 101

Reiki is an ancient healing practice that focuses on channeling energy to promote balance and well-being in the body. At its core, Reiki involves the transfer of universal life force energy through the practitioner’s hands to the recipient, either through direct touch or from a distance. This gentle, yet powerful practice aims to clear energetic blockages and restore harmony to the mind, body, and spirit, helping individuals feel more aligned and at peace.

The science of energy is grounded in physics. Everything around us, including our bodies, is made up of energy fields that constantly interact with the environment. Stress, trauma, and illness can disrupt these energy fields, leading to imbalances that affect our physical, emotional, and mental health. Reiki works to realign these energy fields by directing healing energy where it is most needed, allowing the body to return to a state of balance.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner channels energy into the recipient’s body, targeting areas where energy may be stagnant or blocked. These blockages can manifest as physical pain, emotional stress, or mental fog. As the energy flows, it helps to release these blockages, allowing for a smoother and more balanced flow of life force throughout the body. Many people report feeling a deep sense of relaxation, warmth, or tingling during the process, as the energy moves through and realigns their systems.

Reiki is a non-invasive and safe practice that can be used by anyone, whether for stress relief, emotional healing, or general well-being. By clearing and balancing the energy pathways, Reiki allows the body’s natural healing processes to function more effectively, promoting overall health and a sense of inner peace. Energy is real, and Reiki offers a powerful way to work with it for healing and balance.

In my practice, I often combine Reiki with sound healing to enhance the body’s natural healing abilities. Sound vibrations with sound healing work similarly to Reiki by moving energy through the body and helping to release tension, while Reiki channels healing energy to the areas that need it most. Together, these modalities provide a powerful, holistic experience that helps clients feel more grounded, clear, and connected to their inner selves.

If you feel apprehensive about Reiki, first, ask yourself to notice if you can feel energy right now. Are you feeling energy in your finger tips? What sensations do you feel? Can you feel the energy of a person next to you? What sensations do they give you when you sit next to them versus when you walk away? Notice that energy shows up through sensations, temperature, and colors. Start to find 5-10 minutes of awareness and notice all the different ways energy may be present with you.
